CAN Youths Back Trump’s Warning, Urge Tinubu to Act Decisively Against Northern Terrorists

(DDM) – The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Youths have publicly expressed support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning to the Nigerian government over the continued killings of Christians in northern Nigeria.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the youth group condemned the persistent attacks by terrorist groups, including bandits and insurgents, which have led to thousands of deaths and the displacement of hundreds of communities across the north.

In a statement signed by CAN Youths’ National Coordinator, Pastor Emmanuel Okoro, the organization stressed that international attention, such as President Trump’s warning, underscores the severity of the security crisis.

“We fully endorse this global concern and call on the Nigerian government to act swiftly to protect its citizens,” the statement said.

The group urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take immediate and decisive steps to dismantle terrorist networks, secure affected areas, and prosecute perpetrators.

CAN Youths emphasized that citizens must be reassured of their safety and that justice must be served for the victims of targeted attacks.

According to the youth body, communities in Kaduna, Plateau, Borno, and Zamfara states have been particularly hard-hit, with reports of mass killings, kidnappings, and destruction of property.

They highlighted that such attacks are not only a threat to Christians but also undermine national security and social cohesion.

CAN Youths recommended increased deployment of security personnel, improved intelligence operations, and collaboration with international partners to effectively combat terrorism.

They also called for programs aimed at deradicalization and community-based early-warning mechanisms to prevent further attacks.

The organization warned that failure to act decisively could worsen religious tensions and create a climate of fear among vulnerable populations.

“The government must prioritize the protection of all Nigerians, irrespective of religion or ethnicity,” the statement added.

Civil society groups have also echoed these concerns, urging the federal government to integrate counter-terrorism policies with humanitarian assistance for displaced communities, ensuring long-term stability in affected states.

Security analysts note that while the Nigerian military and police have conducted operations against terrorists, fragmented strategies and logistical challenges have limited effectiveness.

They argue that a coordinated multi-agency response, supported by local communities, is critical for lasting results.

CAN Youths concluded by urging all Nigerians to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and advocate for policies that ensure religious freedom and safety across the country.
