Canada Launches 2025 Sponsorship Program for Parents, Grandparents

Canada is reopening its Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) this July, offering thousands of immigrants the chance to reunite with family.
The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has confirmed it will issue invitations to 17,860 potential sponsors who submitted interest-to-sponsor forms back in 2020.
This latest round of invitations will begin on July 28, 2025, and will run for several weeks.
According to IRCC, the goal is to accept up to 10,000 complete applications under the federal Parents and Grandparents Program this year.
Those selected will be able to submit their applications online through the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.
Applicants are advised to check their emails, including spam and junk folders, to avoid missing an invitation.
IRCC emphasized that only individuals from the 2020 submission pool will be eligible for the 2025 intake. The government is not opening a new interest-to-sponsor form at this time.
Super Visa Still Available for Those Not Invited
Canadians who do not receive an invitation still have another option. They can apply for a Super Visa, which allows parents and grandparents to visit and stay in Canada long-term.
The Super Visa is valid for up to 10 years and allows a stay of up to five years per visit. Visitors may also extend their stay by two additional years while still in Canada.
Family Reunification Remains a Priority
Despite a recent shift in Canadian immigration policy aimed at reducing the number of newcomers, family reunification remains a top priority for the federal government.
According to IRCC, 22% of all permanent resident admissions are granted under family-class immigration, underscoring the country’s commitment to keeping families together.
This announcement brings hope to many immigrants who have waited since 2020 for the opportunity to bring their loved ones to Canada.
Those selected are encouraged to act quickly, follow instructions carefully, and ensure they meet all eligibility requirements to avoid rejection.
