Charly Boy Shrugs Off Bus Stop Snub

Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has expressed indifference following the removal of his name from a bus stop in Lagos State, a site previously informally named in his honour by some local residents.

During a recent interview on Channel Television’s Morning Briefing, Charly Boy addressed the decision made by local authorities to rename the bus stop, emphasizing that the change does not affect him personally.

“It doesn’t matter to me. Anyone who has made a meaningful contribution to their community can carry the honour now,” he remarked.

He added, “I’m indifferent. That’s not our priority right now.”

The outspoken figure used the opportunity to redirect public attention toward pressing national concerns.

He urged Nigerians to focus on critical issues such as electoral reform and ensuring credible elections in the 2027 general polls.

“There are bigger things we should be concerned about,like making sure that come 2027, our votes count.

“That’s what the indicators are pointing to, and that’s what we should all be focused on,” he stated.

Addressing speculation that he might feel marginalized by the renaming, Charly Boy dismissed such notions, asserting that one’s legacy transcends symbolic landmarks or public dedications.

He implied that the impact of one’s activism and contributions to society hold far greater significance than formal recognitions.

The bus stop was informally acknowledged by some Bariga district residents as “Charly Boy Bus Stop”.

This was due to his contributions to civic activism.

The bus stop was officially renamed “Badoo Bus Stop” last Saturday by Kolade Alabi, the outgoing Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area.

The renaming has elicited mixed reactions both within the community and on social media.

Some residents and online users have questioned the transparency of the renaming process and the motivations behind it.

On the other hand, others view the change as indicative of the evolving nature of how communities honour individuals.
