The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has urged Nigerians to verify the type approval status of mobile phones and other communications devices before purchasing them.
The commission said the initiative was aimed at strengthening compliance with its Type Approval requirements, protecting consumers and promoting the use of compliant devices across the country.
NCC in a post on it’s official X handle, encouraged consumers to check whether devices had received the regulator’s approval before making purchases.
According to the commission, the measure is part of efforts to support safer and more reliable mobile networks in Nigeria.
Type Approval is a regulatory process through which communications equipment is assessed to ensure it meets applicable technical standards before being marketed or used.
The NCC’s advisory highlights the importance of consumer awareness in preventing the purchase of devices that do not meet the required regulatory standards.
