(DDM) – Chevron Nigeria Limited has been honoured with the Community Partnership Award at the Gbaramatu Voice International 10th anniversary celebration in Abuja.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the recognition came as part of the organisation’s annual event, which brings together Niger Delta stakeholders, policymakers, and cultural leaders.

The award was presented by Professor Tosan Harriman, Chairman of the Editorial Board of Gbaramatu Voice, who praised Chevron’s decades-long partnership with host communities.

He commended the oil giant for sustaining initiatives that promote both socio-economic development and cultural preservation in the Niger Delta.

Receiving the award on behalf of Chevron, Communications Manager Victor Anyaegbudike reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Nigeria, where it has operated for over 60 years.

Anyaegbudike stressed that Chevron’s guiding principle is one of “shared prosperity,” linking business success with sustainable community growth.

He explained that the company views its role not only as an energy provider but also as a strategic development partner.

Chevron highlighted several of its flagship initiatives that have made a lasting impact on Niger Delta communities.

These include the Global Memorandum of Understanding, which fosters direct collaboration between host communities and the company.

Also central to its operations are Host Community Development Trusts, established under the Petroleum Industry Act.

Through these structures, Chevron channels resources into locally driven development programmes.

In addition, the company’s partnership with the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) has expanded opportunities for grassroots development.

PIND has delivered infrastructure, healthcare, and livelihood projects across various Niger Delta communities, improving quality of life and reducing poverty.

Chevron maintains that these programmes demonstrate its belief that corporate responsibility should translate into measurable social impact.

Beyond economic and infrastructural support, the company has also contributed to cultural promotion and peace-building in the region.

Anyaegbudike, in his remarks, acknowledged the critical role of the media in shaping public perception of corporate-community relations.

He saluted journalists for strengthening development journalism and providing balanced narratives about the oil industry’s contributions.

He described the media as vital partners in advancing sustainable growth and cultural preservation.

Stakeholders present at the anniversary applauded Chevron’s recognition, noting that its model of partnership could serve as a blueprint for other multinationals.

Community leaders from the Niger Delta described the award as a reaffirmation of the company’s positive contributions to host communities.

Analysts argue that Chevron’s emphasis on collaboration has helped reduce tensions historically associated with oil exploration in the region.

The Gbaramatu Voice International anniversary provided a platform to spotlight both achievements and challenges in the pursuit of development in the Niger Delta.

For Chevron, the award signals renewed expectations to continue bridging the gap between extractive operations and community well-being.
