Chidoka Tells Wike: Apologise To Officer Over Alleged Abusive Language

(DDM) — Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to tender an unreserved apology to a law enforcement officer allegedly insulted during a recent confrontation in Abuja.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Chidoka, a respected governance expert and political commentator, stated that ministers are expected to demonstrate leadership through institutional authority, not direct intimidation or personal outbursts.

According to Chidoka, the alleged incident, where Wike was seen reportedly using harsh language on a uniformed officer during an inspection, reflects a worrying trend of public officials personalizing power rather than upholding the dignity of civil service and law enforcement institutions.

He noted that a true leader commands respect by example, not fear or coercion, adding that Nigeria’s democracy thrives only when those in power abide by process and decorum.

“The rule of law must be the guiding principle of governance,” Chidoka stressed.

“A minister’s authority flows from the office he occupies, not the volume of his voice or the intimidation of subordinates.”

Observers say this is not the first time Wike has been accused of confrontational or abrasive conduct in his dealings with officials.

While many describe his leadership style as bold and decisive, critics argue that it often crosses into authoritarian displays of power, which undermine morale among public servants.

Chidoka’s call for an apology has reignited public debate about accountability and respect for institutions, especially among top-ranking government officials who wield immense administrative power.

Political analysts note that Wike’s rising profile as one of President Bola Tinubu’s most visible ministers means that his actions and tone carry symbolic weight for the entire administration.

“If the story is true, an apology would not diminish his authority,” a political analyst told DDM. “It would, in fact, elevate his reputation as a leader who values discipline and respect.”

Meanwhile, civil society groups have echoed Chidoka’s position, urging public officials to uphold ethical standards and avoid conduct that could erode the confidence of security agencies and the public in the government they serve.

As of the time of this report, the FCT Minister’s media office has not released an official response to Chidoka’s statement.
