Sequel to the frayed nerves over the just concluded contest for the traditional rulership stool of Oraukwu, Idemili North council of Anambra state, and in clear demonstration of the wise counsel of Gov Willie Obiano, the newly installed monarch, HRH Igwe Emeka Onuorah has set up a peace and reconciliation committee in the community.

The 9-member committee which has already set out work on its 3-point agenda has Archbishop Jide Okorji as chairman.

It was also given 90 days within which to submit its report, but was mandated to seek for an extension if it would enable it do a good job.

While inaugurating the committee before a capacity crowd of stakeholders, journalists, observers, friends and well-wishers of the community, Igwe Onuorah charged them to reconcile all individuals and groups who may be genuinely aggrieved by the recent events regarding the Igweship tussle.

They were also charged to recommend sustainable steps to achieving a lasting peace in the community and amongst citizens, as well as to advise on ways to avoid reoccurrence in future.

Onuorah commended the committee members on behalf of Oraukwu and the Igwe-in-Council for volunteering to work to restore peace in the community.

He expressed his readiness to join in phone calls, personal appeals and suasion of any aggrieved person if and where it was necessary.

He urged every citizen of Oraukwu and even those in the diaspora to join the peace and reconciliation evangelism to enable the community progress.

The monarch sued for diplomacy, humility and tact in the assignment.

He highlighted that already he has kickstarted moves to restore regular and quality power supply to the community.

Also that plans were afoot to install street light along major roads in the community as well as check the ravaging effects of gully erosion and rehabilitation of roads within the community.

The President General, Chief Cyril Ejidike reminded them that the task was not going to be easy, but that with perseverance they would overcome.

That they would be commended and praised, called all manner of names and face diverse challenges, but should remain focused.

He bolstered their morale when he acknowledged that the Oraukwu Progressive Union (OPU) was going to support them “in this solemn and patriotic task”.

The committee chairman, Okorji, who responded on behalf of his team, admitted they were aware the task was going to be challenging, as many would put up resistance, but was confident that no one ever rejects peace overtures.

The Anambra state Gov Willie Obiano, had issued certificate of Recognition to Onuorah as the new monarch after, according to him, ‘satisfying all the laid down process’ for same.

But one of the contestants, Chief Ezedigbo Okoye felt shortchanged and threatened to go to court to challenge it.
