Young Nigerian entrepreneurs are being encouraged to take advantage of growing cooperation between China and Africa to access practical skills, business networks and partnerships that could help their businesses grow.
The opportunity was highlighted at the sixth China-Africa Special Session of the Global Link for Youth Actions, held in Abuja, where The King’s Patriots Development Foundation (KPDF) partnered with the World Youth Development Forum to strengthen youth exchanges and promote practical cooperation between China and Africa.
Founder and Director of KPDF, Dr Jude Isaac Dahilo, said the collaboration was designed to connect talented young Nigerians with the knowledge, partnerships and experience needed to transform business ideas into viable enterprises.
He explained that the initiative would give young entrepreneurs opportunities to showcase their businesses, learn from Chinese business and development practices, and establish relationships that could support their long-term growth.
Dahilo also disclosed that the platform could help identify young people for possible visits to China, where they would gain practical exposure to the country’s development experience and business environment.
According to him, the objective is to move beyond discussions and create meaningful opportunities for young people to acquire useful skills, develop their ideas and build sustainable businesses.
KPDF currently connects about 590 young people across five West African countries through mentorship, business support and access to opportunities.
The foundation has also supported some participants in registering businesses with the Corporate Affairs Commission and connecting with international opportunities.
Dahilo said Nigerian youths needed to develop practical competencies and learn how to identify business opportunities, rather than depend exclusively on academic qualifications and limited salaried employment.
He encouraged young people to embrace continuous learning, build relevant skills and establish professional relationships that could expose them to new markets.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of vocational education in preparing young Nigerians for employment and entrepreneurship.
Deputy Managing Director of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Nigeria Limited, Zhou Dongping, said the company was ready to work with partners to expand opportunities for young people through vocational training, practical experience and business cooperation.
Zhou explained that CCECC was expanding railway vocational education and training to equip more Nigerians with technical skills and improve their employment prospects.
He noted that developing local railway professionals would support the long-term growth of Nigeria’s railway industry while helping young people acquire skills relevant to workplace demands.
The initiative reflects the broader importance of cooperation between Nigerian and Chinese institutions in developing technical expertise, strengthening professional networks and creating opportunities for young people to participate in economic activities.
For entrepreneurs, access to international networks can provide exposure to different approaches to production, business management and innovation.
Such relationships may also help young business owners identify potential partners and learn how enterprises operate in more developed industrial environments.
However, the impact of the initiative will depend on how effectively the opportunities translate into accessible training, lasting partnerships and practical support for participating businesses.
Young entrepreneurs will also need to develop viable business plans, understand their target markets and apply the knowledge gained to their operations.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with youth unemployment and the challenges of building sustainable enterprises, partnerships that combine practical training with business exposure could help more young people pursue entrepreneurship and contribute to job creation.
The China-Africa youth initiative therefore presents an opportunity to strengthen connections between young Nigerian business owners and international partners, with the potential to support enterprise development and wider economic cooperation.
