Christian Genocide: Tinubu, Trump Set for High-Stakes Meeting Amid Rising Tensions

President Bola Tinubu and United States President Donald Trump are set to hold a crucial meeting “in the coming days” over rising tensions surrounding Nigeria’s security situation.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication, confirmed the development in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

He said both leaders share a strong commitment to fighting terrorism and will discuss claims by Trump of widespread Christian persecution in Nigeria.

The meeting comes after President Trump accused the Nigerian government of failing to stop attacks on Christians. In a recent statement, Trump threatened to cut off US aid and even consider military action against Nigeria if the violence continues. His comments sparked global concern and diplomatic tension.

Bwala said Tinubu’s administration is fully committed to protecting every Nigerian, regardless of faith. He emphasized that both nations have maintained a long history of cooperation in counterterrorism and intelligence sharing.

“Both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump share a deep interest in defeating insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” Bwala said.

He commended Trump’s past support for Nigeria, recalling that the US leader approved major arms sales during his administration. Bwala added that Tinubu has “adequately utilized” the weapons to strengthen Nigeria’s military operations, producing what he described as “massive results” in the fight against terror.

“President Trump has assisted Nigeria greatly by authorizing the sale of arms, and President Tinubu has effectively used the opportunity to boost national security,” he stated.

According to Bwala, the meeting will also clarify claims about whether terrorists in Nigeria deliberately target Christians or attack people across all faiths.

“As for the differences on whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or people of all faiths, those matters will be addressed when the two leaders meet either in the State House or the White House,” he added.

The forthcoming Tinubu-Trump dialogue is expected to play a critical role in easing diplomatic tensions and redefining Nigeria-US relations amid growing global scrutiny.

As both nations prepare for the talks, analysts say the outcome could determine future military cooperation, aid policies, and international perception of Nigeria’s handling of religious violence.
