Ronaldo hints at leaving Al Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo on Monday, May 26, 2025, has hinted at a possible departure from Al Nassr, sparking speculation about his future just hours after the conclusion of the Saudi Pro League season.

The 40-year-old Portuguese superstar posted a cryptic message on social media on Monday night, writing, “This chapter is over,” alongside a photo of himself in his Al Nassr kit.

He added, “The story? Still being written. Grateful to all,” suggesting that while his time at Al Nassr may be ending, his football journey is not yet complete.

Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in late 2022 after parting ways with Manchester United.

His contract with the Saudi Arabian club is set to expire this summer.

While he previously indicated that he might end his career with Al Nassr, his recent post points to a potential change in plans.

The timing of Ronaldo’s statement is especially significant, as it coincides with the end of the domestic season and the beginning of a special transfer window.

From June 1 to June 10, clubs participating in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup are permitted to register new players.

However, Al Nassr will not be one of those teams, having failed to qualify for the tournament.

In contrast, their domestic rivals, Al Hilal, have secured a place at the prestigious competition.

There is also growing speculation that Ronaldo could still feature in the Club World Cup despite Al Nassr’s absence.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that discussions are ongoing regarding Ronaldo’s participation in the expanded tournament.

The tournament will hold in the United States starting on June 14.

Infantino hinted that some clubs may be interested in signing Ronaldo specifically for the competition.

This will leave open the possibility that he could appear in a different club’s colors this summer.

During a recent online interview with popular YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed, Infantino elaborated on the idea, stating, “Ronaldo might play for one of the teams at the Club World Cup.

“There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup … who knows, who knows.”

Ronaldo’s future has thus become the subject of intense speculation.

Fans and pundits alike are wondering whether he will join a club eligible to compete at the Club World Cup or make a move to a new league altogether.

His global star power and ongoing form continue to make him an attractive prospect, even at 40 years of age.

Despite Al Nassr’s shortcomings this season, Ronaldo has remained a standout performer.

He finished as the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League with 24 goals, demonstrating his enduring ability to compete at a high level.

Nevertheless, Al Nassr fell short of their major objectives.

They were eliminated in the semifinals of the AFC Champions League by Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale and ended the league campaign in third place, behind Al Hilal and another top competitor.

The contrast with his longtime rival Lionel Messi is also notable.

While Ronaldo contemplates his next move, Messi will be participating in the Club World Cup with his current club, Inter Miami.

This continues the long-running parallel between the two legends, whose careers have often mirrored each other in high-stakes competitions.

As of now, it remains unclear where Ronaldo will play next.

With the transfer window opening soon for Club World Cup participants and FIFA hinting at interest from other teams, a short-term deal specifically for the tournament could be an option.

Alternatively, he could be preparing for one final major move before eventually retiring.

In summary, Ronaldo’s recent statement has signaled the likely end of his chapter with Al Nassr, though he has left the door open for future possibilities.

With top-level clubs around the world preparing for the expanded Club World Cup, and with Ronaldo still in strong form, his next move could once again shape headlines across the football world.
