Citizen Laments As Wike’s Entourage Cruise In ₦12bn Convoy To Commission Buses

A concerned Nigerian and social advocate, Mr. Ediri R. Idimi, has regretted how the Minister of the federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, and his entourage cruised on at least twelve billion Naira worth of convoy just to commission 56 buses worth about ₦4 billion.
Mr. Idimi made the observation when Wike arrived the venue of the commissioning in flashy, luxury cars that worth more than the buses to be commissioned by far.

Background
It could be recalled that on February 20, 2025, the governor of Edo State, Mr. Monday Okpebholo, commissioned 56 new Toyota Hiace buses as part of a broader plan to acquire 100 buses for the revived Edoline Transport Service.
The buses were intended to improve public transportation across the state and were unveiled during a ceremony in Benin City.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) learnt that the initiative also included the distribution of 38 Toyota Hilux vans and 16 Prado Jeeps to security agencies to enhance mobility and crime-fighting efforts.
The event was part of Governor Okpebholo’s 100-day achievements and aimed at reviving the Edoline Transport Service to improve mobility across the state.
Under the current foreign exchange and market, the estimated unit cost for a brand new 18-seater Toyota HiAce in Nigeria is around ₦78 million per bus for high-roof, top-tier variants.
The estimated total cost of the 56 buses multiplied by ₦78 million amounts to ₦4.368 billion.
The above figure assumes they purchased the premium models at retail value.
If, however, they negotiated a bulk government deal or opted for mid-range trims, the cost could be lower—possibly in the range of ₦2.5–₦3.5 billion.
What may have prompted the concern of the social advocate was evidently how the former governor of Rivers State and his entourage cruised on a long convoy of luxury cars worth about twelve billion Naira just to commission dozens of buses for the general masses worth about ₦4 billion.
Idimi lamented on his social media handle: “If you see the escorts that followed Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to Benin City to commission busses bought by the Edo State Governor, you will realize why Nigeria is in a pitiable condition.
“Let us estimate the vehicles in the Wike Convoy:
1. It has the latest Land Cruisers Jeep about 20, and one of them is about 300 million Naira i.e. 6 billion Naira.
2. There are about 5 Mercedes Benz G Wagons SUV and [one of them] is about 700 million Naira i.e. 3.5 billion Naira for the G Wagons.

3. The Toyota Hilus cannot be counted but let us put them at 10. One of them cost roughly 100 million Naira i.e. 1 billion Naira.
4. There is a Mercedes Benz Maybach with number plate FCT 001. It cost about one billion Naira for one.

“There are a host of other cars in the motorcade, countless security officials and people.
“The total cost of just vehicles driven by Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to go to commission buses bought by Edo State Governor is about 12 billion Naira.
“This is in a country where there are no jobs for youths with high cost of living and extreme poverty and hunger.
“With insecurity, poor government infrastructure, high debt to GDP, poor healthcare facilities, poor education facilities, etc.
“There is no European country where you would see their president going around with convoy of this nature.”
He ended by observing that “there is a gangup of political armed robbers against Nigeria”.
Meanwhile, Idimi’s lamentations may have just begun as Wike also cruises on other super cars such as Rolls Royce, whose Phantom Series II may cost as much as between ₦750 million and ₦1.2 billion.
