City of Dallas in US declares October 7 Yoruba Festival Day

The city of Dallas, in Texas State, United States, has declared October 7, Yoruba Festival Day.

The declaration was made by the Mayor of Dallas, Eric L. Johnson.

Mr Johnson noted that the charitable activities of Yoruba Cultural Center in Dallas, which is a non-profit organisation, has significantly promoted the language, arts and culture of the Yoruba people of West Africa, adding that the community has made significant contributions to the culture of the city and United States.

“The Yoruba people represent an important and influential ethnic group from Africa, and members of this community have made significant contributions to the culture of our great city and nation.

“The Yoruba Cultural Center Dallas has organized YORUBAFEST to showcase African art, music, and culture in a way that unifies the Dallas community as well as integrates African culture into our diverse community.

“Now, therefore, I, ERIC L. JOHNSON, Mayor of the City of Dallas, do hereby proclaim October 7, 2023 as YORUBAFEST DAY,” he said.
