Commonwealth Games: Anambra spirit resonates in Birmingham

True to the lyric contained in the concluding stanza of the Anambra state anthem; “lift the spirit of Anambra”, the Anambra-born Njideka Iyiazi won Gold in the women’s F56/57 Shot-put, at the ongoing Commonwealth games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

She has indeed made the state and Nigeria proud. She made it with a throw of 10.03 meters.

This is congratulations to an outstanding onye Anambra for making the state proud, flying the Anambra State spirit high in faraway United Kingdom.

This is celebrating competence and resilience which brand Anambra represents.

Prior to this victory, the 49-year-old Iyiazi had won silver medal during the 2004 Athens Paralympics (javelin throw), won gold at the 2007 Beijing Paralympics (Shot Put), Bronze in each of the London 2012 Paralympics (Shot Put), 2016 (Discuss) and Tokyo 2000 Paralympics (Shot Put) respectively.

Just like the Anambra Anthem says, “with all our hearts”, may we continue to lift our homeland high, thereby promoting the Anambra spirit.
