Concessioned Onitsha River Port commences commercial operations using barging

The Onitsha River Port in Anambra State has commenced commercial operations (2023), using Barging.

The port, it could be recalled, was concessioned to the private sector 2022 by the then Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government.

According to government sources, the Port is waiting for authorisation to enable containers from overseas to be cleared in Onitsha.

As soon as the authorisation is obtained, containers from Nigeria can equally be exported from Onitsha.

Reacting to the development, the General Manager of Onitsha River Port, Mr. Wannes De Wit, hailed it as the most important hub for the South East.
