Confusion as a Day-Old Baby Goes Missing at Ekiti Health Centre

Panic swept through Ado-Ekiti on Monday morning after a day-old baby vanished from Okeyinmi Primary Health Centre.
The mother had delivered the baby around 8pm on Sunday, August 3, and has received care at the facility, which sits next to the bustling Bisi Market in Okeyinmi.
The baby disappeared while the mother slept inside the post-natal ward.
By morning, nurses returned to the ward for a routine check.
However, they quickly realized the newborn had vanished. No one could explain how the baby left the room unnoticed.
Instead of waiting, the medical team alerted the police.
Officers immediately moved in and began investigating. So far, they have arrested four suspects.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer SP Sunday Abutu confirmed the arrests.
He explained that the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case.
According to Abutu, “The suspects are giving us credible information, and we believe it will lead to the recovery of the baby.”
Meanwhile, a staff member at the facility blamed both hospital workers and the baby’s parents. The staffer, who requested anonymity, described the health centre’s security as weak.
“The centre sits near a major market,” the insider explained. “Yet, no one treats security seriously.”
The source also criticised the baby’s parents for showing carelessness. “A man visited the mother and carried the baby. Moments later, the child vanished. That’s not normal,” the insider said.
Furthermore, the insider urged authorities to investigate the parents. “I heard they are not from this part of the country,” the person added, hinting at possible links to the crime.
In response to public outrage, police deployed operatives to the facility. They hope to prevent protests or unrest from angry residents.
Now, the entire community watches anxiously.
Everyone hopes the investigation will lead to the safe return of the missing baby.
