COPDEM releases official dress code for Peter Obi birthday rally

The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) has released a detailed dress code for supporters planning to participate in the upcoming birthday rally in honour of Mr. Peter Obi.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the dress directive was made public through an official statement issued by the COPDEM National Media Team ahead of the celebration.

The event is expected to draw a large number of “Obidients”, supporters of the former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, across major cities in Nigeria.

According to the statement, participants must adhere to a simple, coordinated dress code reflecting discipline, unity, and non-partisan solidarity.

All attendees are expected to wear

black or blue trousers and

plain white tops or shirts.

Additionally, the statement strongly emphasized that no clothing should carry political party symbols, campaign messages, or election-related tags and stickers.

COPDEM clarified that the birthday rally is not a political campaign, and urged all participants to respect the solemnity and unity of the occasion.

“This rally is a peaceful celebration of leadership and integrity,” the statement read.

“It is not an electioneering ground or a campaign event, and as such, our appearance must reflect that distinction.”

The organization stated that the aim is to project the values Peter Obi represents, simplicity, humility, and good governance, rather than political ambition.

Organizers called on Obidients nationwide to maintain order, discipline, and cleanliness throughout the rally period.

The COPDEM National Media Team also appealed for strict compliance with all safety guidelines and traffic regulations to ensure a smooth and peaceful gathering.

Security agencies have reportedly been notified of the planned rallies in several locations and are expected to provide necessary coordination and protection.

Peter Obi, who turned 64 on July 19, 2025, remains a major figure in Nigerian politics, particularly among youth and civil society groups.

His supporters continue to rally behind his message of transparency, fiscal discipline, and people-oriented governance.

Though he has not declared any fresh political ambition, the birthday celebration is seen by many as a renewal of public solidarity with his democratic ideals.

COPDEM reaffirmed that the event was strictly voluntary, peaceful, and aimed at celebrating a national icon of integrity, not inciting division.

With preparations underway in cities like Lagos, Kano, Delta, Abuja, Enugu, and Awka, the Peter Obi birthday rally is expected to be a highly symbolic and orderly affair.

The group reminded attendees to represent the movement with dignity, emphasizing that “Obidients are known for peace, intelligence, and maturity.”
