Mr. Godwin Onilede, Proprietor, Success Way Nursery and Primary School, Ilorin, on Wednesday, described online learning as a necessary approach to rescuing educational sector from collapsing in this COVID-19 era.
Onilede told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin that e-learning was the only way to save education from total collapse, as most schools had remained locked.
He said that the endless shutdown of schools had affected education system in the country.
“Education is gradually losing its value, as most schools have remained locked.
“We cannot continue to wait for the pandemic to decide our fate for us. There is the need for us adopt e-learning to save students from losing an academic session.
“We need to stop complaining about inadequate resources. Rome was not built in a day. Even the so- call developed nations started somewhere.
“Let us take e-learning seriously. We understand the challenges of poor electricity supply, poor network service and other important factors working against the successful operation of e-learning.
“This is the time for governments at all levels to invest in technology and e-learning to help get students engaged and taken out of idleness,” he said.
He said that students were mostly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, as many of them were not engaged in anything.
“As you can see, even when ASUU said they were ready, the pandemic is still causing setback, thus leaving our universities still closed and students idle.
“We cannot continue like this and allow the pandemic to ruin our education system,” he said.
He, however, called on government, education stakeholders and school proprietors to ensure that online learning was put into consideration for future purpose. (NAN)
