Moses Peter Oricha, Kogi SDP Chairman, urgently urged the public, security agencies, and INEC to dismiss a March 12, 2025 congress.
He blamed alleged “ghost members,” triggering immediate backlash.
On Tuesday, Oricha condemned the planned congress as illegal, accusing unnamed actors and external sponsors of destabilizing the party.
Additionally, he declared, “I exposed ghost members planning Wednesday’s state congress,” explicitly linking the scheme to March 12, 2025.
This is not only laughable but criminal in a modern democratic setting,” Oricha stated.
The SDP chairman affirmed the legitimacy of the party’s current Kogi State executive leadership, elected during a valid April 9, 2022 congress under its constitution.
Transitioning to future plans, he clarified no new congress will occur before April 2026.
Oricha accused the purported organizers of acting out of selfish interests and attempting to create chaos within the party.
Oricha declared, “These individuals remain faceless; moreover, their paymasters sponsor them to advance selfish interests and sow chaos in our party, built from scratch.”
Responding swiftly, he formally alerted INEC, DSS, and Kogi’s Police Commissioner, demanding they halt the illegal congress. He reassured supporters, emphasizing the party’s unity under his leadership.
Dismissing the planned event as “null and void,” the chairman labeled it an illegitimate caricature. He urged vigilance, cautioning against disgruntled elements aiming to destabilize the SDP’s progress.
“To me, these are all ghost individuals who are not members of the SDP. We urge INEC and security agencies to be on high alert.
Oricha clarified the SDP will hold no congresses this week, this year, or before April 2026, per party rules.
This follows ex-Kaduna Governor El-Rufai’s SDP entry, boosting its opposition role amid PDP and Labour Party internal crises. His move strengthens the party’s appeal as a coalition platform.
Observers are closely watching how this situation unfolds as political activities intensify ahead of upcoming elections in Kogi State.
