A civil society organization, Coalition of Civil Society and Media Executives for Policy Stability (COCMEP) has stated that the current Governor of Jigawa State, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar should not be blamed for the current travails of the immediate past Governor of the State, Alhaji Sule Lamido who was arrested and charged to Court for allegedly inciting the members of his party to commit mayhem in the state.
In a press statement issued and signed by the Executive Director of COCMEP, Comrade Innocent Ebirim Okadigbo, the CSO stated that as the Chief Security Officer of the State, the Governor merely carried out his routine administrative duties by alerting the Police of Lamido’s utterances which were capable of leading to breakdown of law and order in the state.
According to the statement, “Governor Badaru should have been blamed if he as the Chief Security Officer of the state had allowed the situation to degenerate to a state of violence.
Rather than condemning him, he should be commended for being very proactive in security matters”.
Comrade Okadigbo maintained that the Police as a Federal Institution cannot be directed on how it will execute its duties by a state Governor as the Police is not answerable to the state Government but to the Federal Government.
The activist blamed the recurring crisis in the country at the door step of sacred cow syndrome and past failure of Law Enforcement Agents to caution highly placed individuals who ferment trouble in the country.
COCMEP boss described as hypocrites and mischievous those who were blaming Governor Badaru for carrying out his lawful duty as the Chief Security Officer of the State by merely alerting the Police on likely breakdown of law and order in his state.
