Dabiri-Erewa congratulates new CMA President, Bolu Ogunyemi

Abuja – Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi has been congratulated on his election as the President of the Canadian Medical Association by Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
Honourable Dabiri-Erewa’s congratulatory message was issued by the Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, NiDCOM, Abuja, Mr. Abdur-Rahman Balogun via press release.
As the first Black person to hold such a post in 158 years, Dabiri-Erewa called the triumph a historic milestone.
The head of NiDCOM emphasized that those who have persevered and remained committed have never failed.
She opined that on the contrary, they have achieved great success.
While pleading for fellow Diasporas to excel in whatever they do, she asked Ogunyemi to continue the good work and bring greater honor to the country.
After several days of voting, Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi, a dermatologist from Nigeria who practices in St. John’s, Newfoundland, won the poll.
With this win, he will represent the CMA in Canada’s government, media, provincial and territorial medical associations, and other relevant groups.
In May 2025, Ogunyemi will take office as president-elect, subject to the CMA General Council’s ratification.
About Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi
Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi is a Canadian dermatologist, advocate, and medical leader.
He was born in Nigeria.

Dr. Ogunyemi has held a number of prominent roles over his career.

Dr. Ogunyemi was recently chosen as the candidate for the upcoming president-elect of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
He will become president-elect until May 2026 and then take office as CMA president for a one-year term if he is accepted.
