Dangote Industries Limited has denied ownership of the truck involved in a deadly road crash in Enugu State on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
Diaspora Digital Media reported that the accident happened around 9 a.m. and involved a Howo truck loaded with cement and a Toyota Corolla.
According to reports, the truck was traveling from Aba to Abuja when it collided with the car along a busy route.
The vehicle carried the inscription of Visco Investment Global Limited. However, many online reports quickly linked the truck to the Dangote Group because of its familiar brand signature.
The company has now dismissed that claim.
In a statement signed by its management, Dangote Group clarified that the truck does not belong to its fleet.
The company stressed that it was operated by a third party and not associated with Dangote Industries.
“We are engaging with the appropriate agencies to find out why the truck was carrying our logo when it is not part of our fleet,” the company said.
It added that it would enforce tighter controls to stop unauthorized use of its brand identity.
“Going forward, we will apply more scrutiny to prevent misuse of our logo on vehicles not linked to the Group,” the statement continued.
Dangote Group explained that it usually avoids commenting on individual cases.
However, it said the widespread misinformation forced it to break silence.
“The spread of misinformation linking these incidents to the Dangote Group without evidence has compelled us to respond,” the company noted.
The conglomerate also appealed to the public and media outlets to avoid spreading unverified claims. It pledged full cooperation with relevant authorities investigating the crash.
“We strongly reject attempts to exploit tragedies like this for malicious or financial gain,” the management said.
The company maintained that it remains committed to high standards of corporate responsibility, road safety, and integrity.
Despite this clarification, Dangote-branded trucks have frequently been linked to road accidents across Nigeria.
Public criticism and backlash often follow such incidents, with many citizens calling for stricter regulations for heavy-duty vehicles connected to the group.
In a recent case, Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma “Phyna” Otabor, died after a Dangote-linked truck accident near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
The truck crushed her leg, leading to an amputation.
Sadly, she passed away on August 31, 2025, just days after graduating from the institution.
Her family has continued to demand justice and compensation
. The tragic case has amplified calls for tighter oversight of trucks branded with the Dangote name.
For now, the company insists that the Enugu truck was not part of its operations and has vowed to protect its brand from misuse in the future.
