Prominent Nigerian business moguls Aliko Dangote and Abdulsamad Rabiu pledged substantial financial support for establishing a presidential library.
This library will honor former military president General Ibrahim Babangida.
The fundraising event, held on Thursday, successfully attracted billions of naira in donations from dignitaries across various sectors.
During the event, Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, announced his commitment of N6 billion to the project.
Additionally, he pledged to contribute N2 billion annually for the next four years.
Consequently, his total commitment will amount to N8 billion.
Dangote pledged to continue annual contributions beyond four years if the IBB Presidential Library project requires additional time for completion. His commitment underscores the project’s significance and his dedication to its success.

“I will contribute N2 billion annually for four years, totaling N8 billion to the IBB Presidential Library’s development,” Dangote stated. He added that he would extend payments if the project exceeds the initial timeline.
Dangote praised Babangida for his transformative role in Nigeria’s private sector. He recalled how the former leader issued banking licenses to nearly 30 individuals in one day, revolutionizing the nation’s economic landscape.
Abdulsamad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, also made a significant contribution, pledging N5 billion towards the library project.
In his remarks, Rabiu described the endeavor as more than just a building or archive, but as a “sanctuary of memory” celebrating Babangida’s vision and enduring legacy.
“Today, we gather to honor more than a person, a building, or an archive,” Rabiu declared. He emphasized the significance of celebrating a sanctuary of memory and a testament to visionary leadership.
“We celebrate a legacy that reflects the vision, complexity, and enduring impact of General Ibrahim Babangida,” he added. Rabiu highlighted the transformative role of one of Nigeria’s most influential leaders.
Other notable contributions included N3 billion from Theophilus Danjuma, founder of the TY Danjuma Foundation, and N500 million from entrepreneur Arthur Eze.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio pledged N50 million, while Mustafa Chike-Obi contributed N100 million.
The IBB Presidential Library is envisioned as a repository of history and a symbol of Babangida’s impact on Nigeria’s political and economic development.
