Davido Sues Babymama Over Custody of Daughter, Imade

Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke aka Davido has filed a lawsuit against his first babymama, Sophia Momodu, seeking joint custody of their daughter, Imade Adeleke.

The lawsuit, filed at the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024, also requests unfettered access to the child.

According to the court documents, Davido’s lawyers, Dr. Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah, and others, argued that despite the singer’s efforts to co-parent and provide for Imade’s needs, Sophia has made “outlandish and Utopian demands” to frustrate him.

The singer claimed that he has been responsible for paying Imade’s school fees, rent, and other expenses, and has also provided a Range Rover Sport Utility Vehicle and a Highlander SUV for Sophia and Imade’s use.

He alleged that Sophia rejected his offer to purchase a N200m apartment for them and instead demanded N5m annually for a rented facility.

Davido also stated that he received a call from Imade’s school informing him that she had been absent for two weeks, and that Sophia refused to inform him about the condition of the Range Rover SUV.

He claimed that he provided another vehicle and N5.8m for the repair of the Range Rover SUV.

The singer alleged that Sophia has continued to show him “unwarranted cruelty” and inflict pain on him, despite his efforts to ensure Imade’s well-being.

He requested the court to grant him joint custody of Imade or unfettered access to her.

This is not the first time Davido and Sophia have been at loggerheads over their daughter.

In 2021, Sophia revealed that she was pained when Imade took Davido’s surname, Adeleke, instead of hers.
