Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been confirmed as one of the headline performers at the opening concert of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 in Rabat, Morocco.
The concert will take place on Saturday, a day before the football tournament officially kicks off, marking the start of the month-long continental competition.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that Davido will lead a star-studded international lineup assembled to set the tone for AFCON 2025.
Global hip-hop star French Montana will also perform at the event, alongside Moroccan singer Douaa Lahyaoui, French-Moroccan hitmaker Lartiste, and rising act Says’z.
CAF said the diverse lineup reflects the tournament’s celebration of African culture, music and global influence, blending entertainment with football to create a festive atmosphere ahead of the competition.
“The opening concert is scheduled for Saturday, just a day before the tournament begins, setting the tone for what promises to be an unforgettable AFCON in Morocco,” the statement said.
Davido, one of Africa’s biggest music exports, is renowned for his high-energy performances on global stages. His appearance further highlights the growing connection between African football and entertainment.
French Montana, a Moroccan-American rapper with multiple international hits, is also expected to attract a global audience, boosting the tournament’s international appeal.
AFCON 2025 will feature Africa’s top national teams competing for continental glory, with organisers promising a full cultural showcase alongside the football action.
Davido’s selection adds to his history of landmark performances. In 2022, he became the first Nigerian artiste to perform at a FIFA World Cup ceremony, delivering the official anthem Hayya Hayya at the closing ceremony in Qatar.
