Nigeria music superstar, David Adeleke, aka Davido, has alleged that there is a plan to stop his Lagos concert following his remarks about Nigeria’s economy during an interview on The Big Homies House podcast in the United States.

Recall that during the podcast, Davido advised Nigerians in America not to return home now, citing poor governance, a plummeting exchange rate, and surging oil prices.

“It is not cool back home. The economy is in a shambles,” he said.

The award winning star highlighted issues like the country’s high oil prices despite being an oil producer.

Also, Davido clarified his stance as both an entertainer and a representative of Nigeria, saying, “I do my part. I am an ambassador. When I go home and I am filming, I am not going to show the bad parts.”

Though, his comments sparked backlash, with prominent Nigerians such as Joe Igbokwe, Reno Omokri, Patrick Doyle and others openly criticizing him.

Also, TVC presenter Akashat Ny’mat argued that such remarks on an international platform could discourage potential investors.

She stated, “When the President seeks foreign investors and a figure like Davido says this, it’s essentially telling them not to come.”

While many were attacking him over comments, Nigerians like Verydarkman, Anita Joseph, Paulo Okoye and others supported him.

Moreover, not worried by the backlash, Davido defended himself on X, calling himself a “real ambassador” of Nigeria and mocking critics.

Addressing rumours of potential show cancellations, he added, “Dem say dem go cancel my show … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”
