Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
Davido, whose uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election in the August 15, 2026 election, expressed concerns over possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process.
In a message directed at Trump, the singer urged the US President and relevant authorities to ensure that voters are protected and their votes respected.
He said, “There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.”
Davido stressed that he did not want violence or bloodshed during the election, calling instead for peace, transparency and a credible electoral process.
The singer had earlier threatened to directly appeal to Trump if he became dissatisfied with the conduct of the election.
He said he would tag Trump on social media, contact him and, if necessary, travel to the White House to seek intervention.
Davido also urged political actors and other stakeholders to allow the people of Osun State to freely choose their next governor.
The August 15 election will determine whether incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke secures another term in office.
