Kingibe emphasized that many parts of Abuja are plagued by darkness, making them unsafe for residents.
She criticized Minister Nyesom Wike for neglecting security and infrastructure needs.
Despite ongoing road construction projects, Kingibe argued that most residents don’t benefit from these developments due to the absence of public transportation.
She believes this oversight makes life difficult for FCT residents.
Kingibe accused Wike of failing to prioritize the needs of the majority of residents, leading to growing resentment toward his governance.
Kingibe has taken proactive steps to address some of these issues, such as installing solar lights in dark and unsafe areas of Abuja.
Her efforts aim to improve the quality of life for residents and provide alternative solutions to the challenges posed by inadequate infrastructure and security.
Senator Ireti Kingibe said the FCT area council elections will reveal Wike’s actual control over the territory, noting widespread dissatisfaction with his leadership.

Confident about her political future, Kingibe dismissed Wike’s claim she won’t return to the Senate in 2027 and said FCT residents are united in their growing resentment toward the minister’s governance.

Senator Ireti Kingibe is a Nigerian civil engineer and politician born on June 2, 1954.
She’s currently serving as the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the Nigerian Senate, elected under the Labour Party in 2023.
Kingibe attended Emotan Preparatory School, Queen’s College Lagos, and Washington Irving High School.
She’s a civil engineer with diverse experience, having worked as a Quality Control Engineer, planning engineer, and regional engineer.
Kingibe also served as an adviser to the National Chairman of the defunct Social Democratic Party.
Kingibe has been part of several political parties, including the Social Democratic Party, All Nigeria Peoples Party, Peoples Democratic Party, and All Progressives Congress, before joining the Labour Party in 2022.
She’s the younger sister of Ajoke Mohammed, wife of former Nigerian head of state Murtala Mohammed, making Murtala Mohammed her brother-in-law.
As Senator, Kingibe chairs the Senate Committee on Women Affairs and has pledged to donate her basic salary to address infrastructural deficits in rural FCT communities.
