Kano-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara, has urged the Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Kofar Kudu in Kano State to expedite action in executing the death sentence passed against him, saying that he was not afraid to die.
The court presided over by Ibrahim Sarki–Yola had on Thursday sentenced Mr Abduljabbar to death by hanging.
Mr Kabara was standing trial for blasphemous statements against Prophet Muhammad, PBUH, in some of his preaching sessions.
Speaking during the court sitting shortly after the judgement, Mr Abuljabbar called for the hastening of the execution of the judgement in a hastened manner, saying that he was ready to die a honourable death.
He said: “Nobody should be worried about my death because I meet my creator in a honourable manner.
“And I am not begging you Ibrahim to temper justice with mercy. I am only seeking God’s mercy. I urge the court to expedite action in executing this judgement.”
The cleric, however, accused the judge of twisting all his evidence in favour of the prosecutors.
“I listened to how you twisted my defense. You turned all my evidence upside down,” Mr Abduljabbar told the judge.
While delivering the judgment, Mr Sarki-Yola said he was convinced with all the evidence tendered by prosecution counsels, declaring that they proved their cass beyond reasonable doubt.
He said: “I am convinced that the prosecution counsel has done their part and proven their case beyond reasonable doubt.”
