(DDM) – Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has strongly indicated plans to formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The retired general, who recently transitioned from military service to civilian life, described his current position as being “in transition.”

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, General Musa confirmed that while the process is ongoing, his political allegiance is already aligned with the ruling party.

When asked directly about officially embracing politics, Musa stated, “I’ve not transited yet. I’m in transition.”

He added that the APC has supported him throughout his senior leadership roles, making the party a natural platform for his political ambitions.

“Not yet, but I think I’ll be. Definitely. The APC has given me the platform to present myself right from when I was CDS till date, so why not?” he said.

General Musa served as Nigeria’s 18th Chief of Defence Staff from June 2023 to October 2025.

He emphasized that his commitment to politics will focus on supporting the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Mr President needs all support, totally. I’ll give him all my support, whatever I can do to make sure that he succeeds in his call of duty, including moving forward to the second term. I think I’d give him my very best,” Musa declared.

His transition to the cabinet followed a swift Senate screening and his swearing-in on December 4, 2025.

Political analysts note that Musa’s move marks a rare case of a top-tier security chief entering partisan politics decisively shortly after retirement.

The announcement comes amid a wave of political realignments that has strengthened the APC’s influence nationwide.

Several opposition governors and political figures have recently abandoned their former parties to join the ruling party, consolidating its dominance ahead of the 2027 general election.

Observers suggest that Musa’s defection could inspire other senior retired military officers to consider active political roles.

His expertise in security and governance is expected to bolster the APC’s strategic planning and grassroots mobilization.

As Musa completes his transition into the party, attention will focus on how his entry reshapes political calculations within the ruling APC.
