Dele Farotimi released from prison after meeting bail conditions

Mr. Dele Farotimi, human rights activist and lawyer, has been released from prison after meeting his bail conditions.

Mr Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), had petitioned the police in the state alleging that Mr Farotimi defamed him in his book, ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’.

Babalola’s petition led to the police filing criminal defamation charges against Farotimi, leading to his arraignment at a chief magistrate’s court in Ado Ekiti.

The trial magistrate subsequently ordered his remand in prison and scheduled the hearing of his bail application.

However, Farotimi was later granted N30 million bail last week Friday.

The publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr. Omoye Sowore, confirmed his release from prison custody.

He said, “I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti state and is now returning home to Lagos. The struggle continues!”.
