Delegates from 30 countries attend AI Conference in Nigeria

Nigeria has taken the lead in harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) for the continent’s technological advancement.

The 2024 Pan-African AI Conference, co-hosted by the United States, has brought together tech leaders, academics, policymakers, and entrepreneurs from over 30 African countries and beyond to discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by AI.

The conference, held in Lagos, Nigeria’s thriving tech hub, aims to foster collaboration and drive innovation in AI development and implementation.

Nigeria’s Minister for Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, emphasized the need for an inclusive, equitable, and human-focused approach to digital transformation.

Tijani announced a $61,000 Artificial Intelligence fund for Nigeria’s brightest AI startups, further solidifying the country’s commitment to AI development.

Dr. Seth Center, Acting Special Envoy for Critical and Emerging Technology, highlighted two primary challenges in AI development: creating a safe and secure governance framework and fostering an enabling business environment.

The Nigeria-US collaboration underscores the importance of cross-continental partnerships in driving technological innovation.
