(DDM) – The Delta State Police Command has arrested 13 suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity, also known as Black Axe, during a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
The arrests were made on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Ekraka Community Forest, Kokori, in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
Police sources confirmed that the operation successfully foiled a planned illegal gathering by the suspected cult members in the forested area.
During the raid, operatives reportedly recovered four firearms and seven vehicles allegedly linked to the group’s criminal activities.
Authorities said several other suspects managed to escape into the forest and are currently being pursued by security operatives.
The Delta State Police Command emphasised that investigations are ongoing to dismantle the criminal network and apprehend all individuals involved.
Sources said the operation was carried out following weeks of intelligence gathering on the suspected cult’s movements and planned activities.
The raid is part of a broader security strategy by the Delta State Police to combat cult-related violence and maintain law and order in the state.
Residents of Kokori and surrounding communities welcomed the police action, describing it as a strong measure against criminal elements operating in remote forest areas.
Police officers involved in the operation maintained that the safety of civilians was a priority during the raid.
Investigators noted that the Aiye Confraternity has a history of engaging in violent clashes, illegal gatherings, and intimidation of communities.
Officials said the recovered firearms and vehicles will be used as evidence in ongoing investigations and subsequent prosecutions.
Security analysts noted that forested areas like Ekraka Community Forest have historically been used by cult groups as hideouts, making intelligence-led operations critical.
Police sources said coordination between local informants and operatives was key to the success of the operation.
Authorities assured the public that follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend remaining suspects who escaped.
The Delta State Police Command also reiterated its commitment to curbing cult-related activities across the state.
Residents were urged to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and providing timely information.
Police warned that anyone found participating in cult activities would face the full weight of the law.
Officials stressed that continuous intelligence gathering and rapid deployment of operatives are essential tools in preventing future gatherings of criminal groups.
Security experts said dismantling such networks not only reduces violent incidents but also restores public confidence in law enforcement.
The Delta Police Command confirmed that all arrested suspects will be interrogated to uncover additional details about the cult’s operations.
Investigations will focus on identifying leaders, funding sources, and possible links to other criminal networks within and outside Delta State.
Authorities stated that the arrests send a strong message that illegal cult activities will not be tolerated.
They said operations of this nature would continue until all threats posed by such groups are neutralised.
Police sources assured that additional support from federal and state security agencies is being deployed to ensure sustained monitoring of high-risk forested areas.
The operation in Ekraka Community Forest is part of ongoing measures to enhance safety, protect communities, and enforce the rule of law throughout Delta State.
