(DDM) – The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 21-year-old woman, identified as Bina, for allegedly stabbing her live-in partner to death.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the tragic incident was disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Bright Edafe, through a video posted on his X social media handle.

The case has sparked widespread public debate over domestic violence, child marriage, and the failure of family and societal structures.

According to police reports, the suspect admitted to stabbing her 34-year-old partner in the chest during a heated altercation at their Warri residence.

The victim, who was also the father of her children, reportedly died from the fatal stab wound.

Bina confessed that the fight escalated beyond control, leading her to commit the act in anger.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had been cohabiting with the deceased since she was just 17 years old.

The union, though not formalized, produced two children, both of whom are now left in a state of uncertainty following the tragedy.

SP Edafe expressed deep concern over the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s life.

He pointed out that Bina had stopped schooling in Senior Secondary Two despite her ability to communicate fluently in English.

Edafe linked the incident to societal neglect, weak parental supervision, and the wider problem of child cohabitation in some communities.

He described the killing as tragic, stressing that the combination of poverty, lack of guidance, and early exposure to domestic pressures played a role.

According to him, cases like this underline the dangers of underage relationships that often slide into abusive and unstable domestic arrangements.

The police confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to determine whether other underlying factors contributed to the killing.

Legal experts have noted that the suspect faces possible charges of homicide, which carry severe penalties under Nigerian law.

Advocates for women and child rights argue that the case reflects deep-seated failures in addressing underage cohabitation and gender-based violence.

Community leaders in Warri have also weighed in, calling for urgent interventions to educate young people on the dangers of abusive relationships.

Observers believe the tragedy should serve as a wake-up call for policymakers to strengthen child protection frameworks.

They insist that social welfare systems must be equipped to prevent young girls from dropping out of school and falling into exploitative unions.

For now, the Delta State Police Command says Bina remains in custody while investigations continue.

The case has ignited nationwide conversations about family breakdown, early cohabitation, and the urgent need for preventive education on domestic violence.
