Two people were shot by police officers during a protest against house demolitions in the Karsana community of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The shooting occurred on Monday morning when police officers prevented affected residents from re-entering the village to retrieve their belongings.

Tensions escalated, and the police opened fire, injuring two people, Sunday Danjuma and Jacob Audu.

The community chairman, Zakari Baba, confirmed the incident, stating that the injured individuals are receiving treatment at the Gwagwa health center.

FCT Commissioner for Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Hon Musa Dikko, confirmed the incident and revealed that he had visited the community to calm tensions.

He has also summoned the developer responsible for the demolition to explain who authorized the action.

The FCT police command’s spokesperson, SP Adeh Josephine, did not respond to calls or text messages regarding the incident

The demolition, which affected the palace of the village chief, Yahaya Barde, had previously sparked outrage, with AMAC Chairman Christopher Zakka Maikalangu threatening to sue the developer.
