Emmy-winning actress Valerie Mahaffey and star in the series Desperate Housewives, has passed away at the age of 71, her family has confirmed.
The acclaimed performer died in California on Friday, May 30, 2025, following a battle with cancer.
This is according to a statement provided by her publicist to The Hollywood Reporter.
Mahaffey was best known for her versatile roles across television and film, with standout performances in other series such as Young Sheldon, and Big Sky.
Over a five-decade career, she became a familiar face to American audiences, celebrated for her ability to bring both depth and nuance to a wide range of characters.
Her husband, actor Joseph Kell, expressed his grief in a statement to Variety, saying:
“I’ve lost the love of my life, and America has lost one of its most endearing actresses.
“She will be missed.”
The couple’s daughter, Alice, also shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, writing, “I don’t really have the words to say right now.
“Cancer sucks.
“I’ll look for you in all the fun moments of life.
“I know that’s where you’ll be.”
Mahaffey earned significant acclaim in 1992 when she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Eve in the offbeat CBS drama Northern Exposure.
