Dignitaries set to storm Owerri for first international convention on drug abuse

All roads lead to The Place Event Centre, Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, as the Sunrise Youth Entrepreneur Initiative Ltd/Gte hosts the First International Convention on Drug Abuse, themed “Uniting for a Drug-Free and Secure Society.”

The landmark convention aims to tackle the growing menace of drug abuse and its direct link to insecurity in society, bringing together eminent personalities, community leaders, and advocates of peace from across Nigeria and the diaspora.

His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, Executive Governor of Imo State, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour and will also receive a Special Award as Best Governor of the Year, in recognition of his administration’s outstanding efforts in youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and the fight against drug abuse.

Other distinguished personalities expected at the convention include: Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, Former Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, one-time National President of ASUU, and the current President of the Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), who will serve as Chairman of the Occasion.

HRM, Eze Dr. Jude Ihenetu, Eze Ndigbo Ghana, to be honored for his outstanding efforts in protecting and promoting Igbo culture in the diaspora.

Lolo Nneka Chimezie, President of Igbo Women Assembly, to receive recognition for her outspoken advocacy against crime and her relentless campaign for women and the preservation of the Igbo language.

Bishop M.A. Enyioha, Bishop Ndigbo, to be honored for his remarkable leadership and efforts in defending the dignity and unity of the Igbo people.

Mazi Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, President, Ohanaeze Youth Council, who will deliver the keynote address.

Dogara Unyem Caesar, President of Kaduna Youth Project and author of Antidote to Drug Addiction, who will make a special presentation.

The Convener and Chief Executive Officer of the Sunrise Youth Entrepreneur Initiative Ltd/Gte, Princewill Richardson, stated that the convention is not merely a dialogue but a collective call to action.

“We are uniting voices from government, traditional institutions, the church, and youth movements to confront drug abuse and insecurity head-on. Our goal is to restore discipline, promote awareness, and inspire social responsibility among our people,” he said.

The event promises to be a defining moment for community advocacy in the Southeast and beyond, showcasing the power of unity in the pursuit of a drug-free and secure society.
