YENAGOA, NIGERIA — Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has praised his deputy, Peter Akpe, for his humility, competence and capacity to serve, describing him as the right person for the responsibilities entrusted to him.
Diri made the remarks during a grand reception held in honour of the deputy governor, where political leaders, government officials, supporters and other dignitaries gathered to celebrate Akpe and his contributions to the administration.
The governor highlighted Akpe’s personal qualities and professional capacity, saying his conduct and commitment to public service had continued to justify the confidence placed in him.
Diri said the deputy governor had demonstrated humility in his dealings with people, while also showing the competence required to effectively discharge the responsibilities of his office.
The governor’s remarks also reaffirmed his decision to work with Akpe, whom he described as a “round peg in a round hole.”
According to Diri, the deputy governor’s ability to work effectively within the administration had strengthened the partnership between the two leaders and contributed to the smooth running of government.
The reception provided an opportunity for supporters and political associates to celebrate Akpe, while recognising his role in the state administration.
Diri’s commendation comes amid continued efforts by the Bayelsa government to highlight the achievements and contributions of members of its administration. The governor has consistently emphasised teamwork and cooperation among government officials in pursuing the state’s development agenda.
Speaking about Akpe’s character, Diri stressed the importance of humility in public office, noting that political positions should be approached as opportunities to serve rather than avenues for personal recognition.
He also praised the deputy governor’s capacity to handle the demands of his office, suggesting that his experience and disposition had made him an important part of the administration.
The event was marked by goodwill messages and expressions of appreciation from those who gathered to honour the deputy governor. Supporters described the reception as a celebration of his service and relationship with the people.
Akpe’s role as deputy governor places him at the centre of the state’s executive leadership, working alongside Diri on matters relating to governance and development.
The governor’s endorsement further underlined the working relationship between the two officials, with Diri using the occasion to publicly reaffirm his confidence in his deputy.
The reception concluded with continued expressions of support for Akpe and recognition of his contribution to the administration.
