Nigerian are calling out the former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, in various ways owing to recent political developments involving him.

It could be recalled that the Social Democratic Party (SDP), on July 28, 2025, expelled Mallam El-Rufai and banned him for 30 years.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, issued a statement confirming the decision.

According to the party, the former Kaduna Governor violated its constitution, manifesto, and values, breaching Electoral Act which gives political parties full control over their membership.

The SDP warned the public and its members to avoid any dealings with El-Rufai, declaring that he no longer represents the party’s interest at any level.

Aiyenigba further asked the Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant institutions to take note of his non-membership status.

The SDP National Working Committee (NWC) ruled him ineligible for party membership until 2055, after reviewing his conduct from its Kaduna chapter.

SDP noted that despite clear evidence that he never registered, El-Rufai claims SDP membership and promotes rival parties.

Reacting to the controversies surrounding El-Rufai, Mr. Christopher D. Wenegieme, wrote Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) from his Colorado, USA, abode:

“All these evil lots go about acting as if Nigerians don’t have brains to think or remember.

“Look at the evil personified named Nasir El-Rufai with a stupid prayer bid in hand.

“This evil apostle who led the Muslim/Muslim agenda in Kaduna State and in Nigeria at large.

“Nigerian Christians are the most docile animals God ever created, if not how can the likes of El-Rufai be allowed to even open his mouth or left alone to preach nonsense to the Christians?

“Former President Muhammadu Buhari himself was credited with that same speech that no non-Muslim will be allowed to rule Nigeria ever again.

“The luck he had was that he was never captured on tape and he later recanted and denied it.

“But El-Rufai is caught on tape loathing and proudly saying it in front of his bigoted Muslim audience.”

In another thoroughly scripted article published online and entitled “Nasir El-Rufai: A Comprehensive Analysis Of His Religious Marginalization, Bigotry & Role In Nigeria’s Bedeviling Insecurity Crisis“, Mr. Wenegieme stated:

“How can one forget the clear admission to facilitating the arming of Fulani Militia “Fulani herdsmen” during the Goodluck Jonathan administration, purely for destabilization of the government in the event Mohammadu Buhari loses the election.

“Does this sound like a man or men who have the love of their country at heart?

“This is how Nigeria is held back by thugs in politics and truth is if it were in any sane society, this “tyrant” would have been long held to account to pay for these “Crimes Against Humanity.”

“This is where we should pause and ask ourselves why is Nnamdi Kanu held in prison and Nasir El-Rufai walking as a free man on streets? A man with the blood of so many on his head.”

One of the foremost loathers of Mallam el-Rufai and former Chairman of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, in a piece entitled “El-Tufiakwa for El-Rufai“, wrote on June 1, 2025:

“One of the memorable moments from the presidential campaign ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 elections featured then ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the Chatham House in London in December 2022, allocating to leading members of his entourage the responsibility for answering various questions from members of the public.

For the questions on insecurity, he called on the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, to address them.

At the time, Candidate Bola Tinubu explained that he did that to advertise the versatility and cohesion of his team, or “team-spirit” as he called it.

Many believed then that asking el-Rufai to respond to those questions showcased his competence on insecurity.

In hindsight, it seems more likely that candidate Tinubu intuited that Nasir el-Rufai embodied the manifestation in human form of Nigeria’s insecurity crisis.”

Prof. Odinkalu noted further:

“In March 2024, Awemi Dio Maisamari sued el-Rufai in his personal capacity in Suit No. FHC/KD/CS/23/24 through their lawyer, Gloria Ballason, who has fast become el-Rufai’s legal nemesis.

“Last week, Justice Hauwa’u Buhari of the Federal High Court in Kaduna found el-Rufai personally culpable for the abuse of the human rights of the Awemi Dio and Adara elders.

“…the judge pointed out that a governor has a responsibility to ensure the protection of lives and property and that public office is not meant to gratify the whims, ego or benefit of the occupant.

“The court specifically found el-Rufai responsible for abuse of office and held that an occupant of public office cannot assert the benefit of official immunities for acts of abuse of office… that his misconduct in this case amounted to a breach of his duty as governor to protect all persons in the state.

“The court exonerated the office of the state governor from liability, commended the courage of the Attorney-General in advising against the executive abuse of office, and awarded damages of N900 million against el-Rufai personally.

“In good-old Nigerian parlance, the court dared to say to el-Rufai, El-Tufiakwa!

“Nasir el-Rufai has sought recently to sell himself as an advocate for good government and against arbitrariness. His record in government belies his recent pretensions.

“This judgment reminds everyone why the man is so odious and why his effort to distract public attention deserves ridicule.”

Recently, El-Rufai was seen in several events flirting with people he once traduced and bullied including the former candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, after he was dumped by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in whose favour he fought for the Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket.

El-Rufai, it could also be recalled, barred Peter Obi from campaigning in Kaduna, claiming that Obi stopped him for doing something similar in his state, Anambra, in 2013.

The questions on the lips of many are: “how reliable is El-Rufai in a coalition?” and “how dependable are El-Rufai’s pledges in a coalition?”

Only time will tell.
