Don Jazzy Breaks Silence As Viral UK Crash Story Resurfaces

(DDM) – Nigerian music producer and Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has clarified a long-circulated story about a car he left behind in the United Kingdom, saying he never fled the scene as widely claimed.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the story re-entered public conversation after his former associate, Bankulli, narrated a sensational account on social media, suggesting that the young Don Jazzy panicked after a crash in London and ran before authorities arrived.

Bankulli’s version alleged that Don Jazzy had gone for a performance in London and was driving back through the Blackwall Tunnel when he fell asleep and crashed the vehicle.

He claimed that Don Jazzy removed the plate number from the damaged car and fled the scene because he feared the cost of police retrieval would exceed the amount needed to repair the vehicle.

He further described the producer as a struggling young man in London trying to survive by any means available at the time.

The narrative went viral after an X user speculated that UK police could reopen the case if Don Jazzy ever returned to the country, triggering anxiety among fans who feared he might face legal issues.

Don Jazzy responded openly, dismissing the idea that he ran away or evaded responsibility.

He said he did not flee but waited for the police to arrive at the scene of the accident.

He explained that the officers who arrived subjected him to a breathalyser test to check if he had been driving under the influence of alcohol.

He said the test confirmed he was not drunk, but the authorities still impounded the damaged vehicle according to standard UK road safety procedure.

Don Jazzy noted that the major challenge he faced at the time was financial.

He said the fine imposed by authorities to retrieve the vehicle from impound was higher than the actual cost of the second-hand car he had been driving.

He explained that retrieving the vehicle made no economic sense, so he made the practical decision to leave it with UK authorities.

He described the car as a cheap vehicle that was not worth the cost of the official penalties.

The producer added humor to the matter, saying the financial imbalance between the fine and the car’s value made the decision easier to take.

The clarification has since calmed fears among fans who believed he still had an unresolved legal issue in the United Kingdom.

Industry observers note that Don Jazzy, like many Nigerians abroad in the early 2000s, faced significant financial challenges while trying to establish himself.

His recent explanation also highlights the misunderstandings that arise when old stories resurface in sensational forms on social media.

The incident has since sparked broader conversations about the struggles of Nigerian youths in the diaspora, particularly during their early undocumented years of hustling.

Fans have praised the producer for addressing the story directly and clearing misconceptions that could have escalated into damaging rumours.

Don Jazzy’s response has also reignited admiration for his journey from a struggling youth in London to one of Africa’s most successful music executives.
