Stop Distracting Tinubu — Foursquare Church fires Warning

The Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria has declared that it is too early to judge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government, warning political actors against turning public gatherings into 2027 campaign platforms.
Speaking during a press conference in Lagos, the General Overseer, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, called on politicians to focus on solving Nigeria’s economic and security problems instead of engaging in premature politicking.
“We should allow the government to work and not be distracted by early politicking,” Rev. Aboyeji stated.
“The challenges Nigerians are facing require total focus and urgent solutions, not premature campaigns.”
The press briefing held at the national headquarters of the church in Yaba, Lagos, marked the unveiling of activities for the church’s 70th anniversary celebration, themed “70 Years of a Complete Gospel.”
The weeklong celebration, scheduled to run from July 21 to 27, 2025, highlights seven decades of spiritual revival, humanitarian service, and national impact.
Rev. Aboyeji emphasized that the church’s mission goes beyond preaching and includes community outreach, youth empowerment, medical missions, and social impact initiatives across Nigeria.
“Our focus goes beyond spiritual revival. We are marking this milestone with impactful outreach through medical missions, soul-lifting musical events, youth-targeted programmes, and robust community service,” he added.
The Foursquare Gospel Church, with over 5,000 branches nationwide, plans to use the anniversary to reconnect with former members, honour major contributors, and inspire future generations to embrace faith and service.
Elder Kehinde Lawanson, Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, revealed a packed schedule of events. Activities include:
Colour parade
Inter-school quiz competition
Colloquium
Praise night
Youth event titled Special Blast (Youth Connect)
Awards and gala night
A grand finale on July 27, 2025
The church leadership affirmed that the anniversary would not only celebrate its legacy but also send a message of peace, responsibility, and national progress at a time when Nigeria is struggling with inflation, insecurity, and political unrest.
Rev. Aboyeji’s comments come as politicians across party lines begin subtle campaigning for the 2027 general elections, a move many believe could distract from the critical task of governance.
He stressed the need for leaders to remain focused, saying that only unity and prayer can move the country forward during these challenging times.
