There was mild drama in Kahawa West district of Kenya when 22-year-old Promise Karanja, took his 42-year-old lover, Terryanne, to meet his mother who is two years younger that the would-be bride.
According to a report by Tuko, a Kenya-based media outfit, Terryanne, a 42-year-old woman met and fell in love with Promise Karanja, who is 20 years younger than she is.
Matters, however, quickly took an unexpected turn when they went to meet his family.
The young man’s mother and other family members said they would never approve the relationship and kicked the new couple out.
Social media influencer, Nicholas Kioko, accompanied the couple for the introduction ceremony which quickly went downhill.
Promise said had set the ball rolling, saying: “I don’t have much to say. This is my better half. She is the person that I love.”
Before his 40-year-old mother could say jack, the friends and family who were present took the words from her mouth.
“Really? We cannot accept. She is older than your mother. Are you sure, or did her money make you fall for her? This is not love. You are being used,” said a woman in pink.
Stressing their age differences, she said further: “This woman has been to many places and seen many things. I don’t think it’s possible for you to date.”
Thins went farther south when Promise held Terryanne’s hand amid the onslaught, aggravating the situation.
“Stop touching each other in front of us. What are you trying to show us? Are you the first person to fall in love?
“Do you want to touch this old woman in front of your mum?” wondered the woman.
She promised to help Promise find a younger woman to marry and threatened to disown him.
“If you insist on staying with her, you will curse this family.”
She passed on the baton to another woman who had similar sentiments. Midway through the lecture, they again held hands, prompting her to stand up.
“Don’t hold each other before me,” she menacingly said.
The woman then said that they would never accept the relationship.
“We thought he was bringing a young woman, but no! It’s this grandma.”
However, a younger woman said she saw no problem as long as they loved each other, but the two women protested.
Promise and Terryanne held hands again, and the women threw them out of the house. “Go and never come back,” they roared.
In the meantime, it was understood that Terryanne that had gifted Promise a piece of land and registered it in his name.
Explaining the reason for her choice for a land, Terryanne said: “He said he didn’t want a car.”
It was gathered, meanwhile, that the couple still face some backlash and threats from family and friends. Read more.
