The Commissioner of Police Edo State, CP Mohammed A. Dankwara, has declared the resuscitation of ban on the use unregistered vehicles, spy number plates, covered vehicle number plates, unauthorised dealers’ vehicle number plates and use of vehicle with only one vehicle number plates fixed either at the front or back of vehicle that are seen driven by car owners in the state.
The CP Dankwara said it is important for the members of the public to know that such acts are illegal as they are clearly in contravention to Section 4 of Road Traffic Acts and Regulations.
He that the provision of the law is consciously and deliberately violated by the offenders in order to deceive members of the public to consistently indulge in their criminal acts.
The CP warned that the owners/ users of these vehicles are hereby given one week with effect from Monday 17/07/2023 to register their vehicles, tie the number plates to their vehicles according to standard.
He also called on car owners whose vehicles have been duly registered but flagrantly refused to fix it to their vehicles or fix chooses to fix one out of the pairs either in the front or back to desist from the act.
Dankwara admonished the users of government vehicles (official vehicles) to desist from using the government vehicles attached to them after 6 pm and also to stop swapping of the official number plates to other vehicles own by them as the laws prohibiting it is still in force.
To this end, he enjoined citizens to go about their lawful businesses without fear or intimidation, warning offenders to desist from the act, or stand to face prosecution in the law court and their vehicles auctioned.
