Mr. Blessing Albert, the Chairman of Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, has warned commercial drivers against wearing caps or other political materials associated with opposition parties at motor parks in the council.
He issued the warning to commercial drivers at Onitsha Park in Ekpoma, according to a video circulating on social media.
In the video, the council chairman was heard warning that any driver seen wearing political materials not belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC) could be removed from the park.
He issued the warning while distributing APC-branded caps to the drivers.
“On no account will I see any driver put on a cap or any material that does not belong to APC,” he said.
Albert further warned that any driver who violated the directive could be ordered to leave the park, irrespective of his relationship with the council chairman.
He linked the directive to Governor Monday Okpebholo’s political mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The chairman also referenced Okpebholo’s pledge to deliver 2.5 million votes from Edo State for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
He urged the drivers to support Tinubu and Okpebholo, arguing that the administration’s road projects had improved their businesses.
Meanwhile, the directive effectively bars commercial drivers at the park from displaying political materials associated with rival parties or politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi.
