The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued ten Adventist students abducted on April 16, 2025.

Kidnappers seized the victims near the Edo-Ondo border as they traveled from Rivers State to Babcock University.

Swift police action followed the abduction report, with Commissioner Monday Agbonika deploying tactical teams, local vigilantes, and hunters. This coordinated response trapped the kidnappers in their hideout, triggering a fierce gun battle.

During the confrontation, officers neutralized one kidnapper while others fled with gunshot wounds. Authorities exercised extreme caution as captors used students as human shields, though one inspector sustained injuries during the operation.

After sustained pressure, all ten students (eight males and two females) regained freedom unharmed. Police spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu praised the joint effort, highlighting its precision despite challenging circumstances.

In a separate breakthrough, officers arrested two robbery suspects – Binigolo Ebimene (25) and Mathew Denwei (27) – in Ovia South West LGA. The duo allegedly stole a motorcycle and phones from a victim at Malim Camp Gbelebu community.

Investigators recovered a locally-made pistol and two headlamps from the suspects, linking them to multiple attacks on farmers and commuters. Both men have confessed and await prosecution after completing ongoing investigations.

Commissioner Agbonika issued a strong warning to criminals, vowing to intensify security operations across Edo State. He encouraged residents to partner with police by reporting suspicious activities promptly.

These operations demonstrate Edo police’s commitment to combating crime through intelligence-led strategies. The command’s rapid response capabilities and community engagement continue yielding positive results.

The successful missions come amid growing security challenges in Southern Nigeria. Police attribute their effectiveness to improved intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation.

While celebrating these victories, authorities acknowledge more work remains. They’ve pledged to dismantle all criminal networks operating within Edo’s forests and border communities.

Residents have expressed relief at the developments, though some demand permanent security posts in vulnerable areas. Community leaders are now organizing neighborhood watch groups to support police efforts.

The rescued students have reunited with their families after medical checks. Religious organizations are reviewing travel protocols for members following the incident.

As investigations continue, police are tracking the escaped kidnappers using forensic evidence. The command has deployed additional patrol units to prevent retaliatory attacks.

These operations mark a significant boost for Edo’s security framework. Officials credit proper funding, training, and equipment for enhancing officers’ operational efficiency.

The state government has promised more logistical support to security agencies. Governor Obaseki recently approved new armored vehicles and communication gadgets for police divisions.

Security experts recommend sustained surveillance along interstate borders. They emphasize the need for technology-driven policing to outsmart increasingly sophisticated criminals.

With these developments, Edo State reinforces its reputation for proactive security management. The command urges continued public vigilance while assuring residents of their safety.
