Hon. Andrew Torhile Uchi, the personal assistant to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, is in EFCC custody.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that he is being investigated over allegations of corruption, bribery, and money laundering amounting to N10 billion.

A senior EFCC source confirmed that Uchi was invited for questioning on Monday.

The investigation began after a petition accused him of illegally acquiring properties worth over N6 billion.

The properties are located in Abuja, Jos, Makurdi, Gboko, and Wannune in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State.

EFCC investigations have traced N1.6 billion allegedly used for luxury car purchases between December 2023 and now.

The funds reportedly passed through four new-generation banks.

Nine car dealers across Abuja, Kaduna, Lagos, Jos, and Makurdi allegedly received payments from these funds.

Two Bureau de Change operators are also under investigation for their involvement in the financial transactions.

A significant portion of the funds credited to Uchi allegedly came from these financial firms.

The EFCC is now seeking a court order to expand investigations into his properties.

The goal is to verify the source of funds used for the acquisitions.

Investigators suspect the money is proceeds from bribery and corrupt dealings.

As of the time of filing this report, Uchi remains in EFCC custody.

He is providing explanations regarding the sources of his wealth.

Efforts to reach EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale were unsuccessful.

His phone lines were reportedly switched off.
