EFCC, NAFDAC Join Forces Against Economic Sabotage

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have joined forces to fight economic sabotage in Nigeria.

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede hosted NAFDAC Director General Professor Mojisola Adeyeye at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

During the visit, both leaders pledged to strengthen collaboration in tackling corruption, fake drugs, and violations in the health sector.

Olukoyede, while speaking, emphasized the critical role of compliance in nation-building.

He noted that Nigeria cannot develop unless its citizens and institutions follow rules and regulations.

“I believe strongly in compliance,” he said. “Without it, development becomes impossible.

What separates developed nations from others is simply their culture of compliance. People do the right things and follow rules.”

He explained that the EFCC’s mandate empowers it to collaborate with other agencies like NAFDAC.

The Commission, he said, tackles both financial crimes and economic sabotage, including the illegal importation of fake drugs and the vandalism of oil pipelines.

“If anyone takes advantage of loopholes in our laws to gain financially, we have the mandate to act.

Whether it’s bursting pipelines or selling fake medicines, we can investigate and prosecute,” Olukoyede added.

He further assured NAFDAC of EFCC’s full support in pursuing its mandate.

According to him, collaboration between enforcement and regulatory bodies is crucial in protecting public health and national security.

On her part, Professor Adeyeye said the visit aimed to deepen synergy between both agencies.

She stressed that corruption cannot be fought in isolation and called for greater stakeholder involvement.

“Corruption is a hydra-headed monster. To fight it effectively, we must build platforms of collaboration.

We need all hands on deck security agencies, regulators, and society at large,” Adeyeye stated.

She also highlighted challenges within her agency, including staff and clients who sometimes attempt to compromise processes.

To address this, she called for support in building tools that will promote transparency and accountability.

“We’re not different from people in other countries. Nigerians are gifted. What we lack are working systems and tools,” she said.

This partnership between EFCC and NAFDAC signals a stronger push against health-related corruption and economic crimes in Nigeria.

Both agencies now plan to share intelligence, conduct joint operations, and create public awareness to expose and prevent economic sabotage.
