Egg of deceit: Woman arrested for poisoning eggs meant for ex boyfriend

Police in Brazil have arrested a woman for allegedly poisoning Easter eggs and sending them to her ex-boyfriend’s new family.
Sources said that Maranhão Civil Police identified the suspect as 35-year-old Jordélia Pereira Barbosa.
Investigators said Barbosa disguised herself before buying the chocolates and spiking them with a harmful substance.
She allegedly delivered the poisoned eggs to her ex-boyfriend’s partner, Mirian Lira, through a motorbike courier.
Barbosa included a note that read, “With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter,” reports said.
Lira shared the chocolates with her two children on Wednesday, April 16.
Tragedy struck when Lira’s seven-year-old son, Luis Silva, ate the chocolate and fell sick immediately.
Doctors confirmed that Luis died on Thursday, April 17, at Imperatriz City Hospital.
Authorities said the cause of death remains under investigation.
Lira and her 13-year-old daughter, Evelyn Fernanda, remain in critical condition at a local hospital.
Police retrieved CCTV footage showing Barbosa in a black wig buying the Easter eggs.
Sources also said she previously tried to poison Lira through a chocolate-tasting event at a supermarket.
Police tracked and arrested Barbosa on April 17, while she travelled on a bus to her hometown, Santa Inês.
Officers found receipts, two wigs, scissors, and suspected drugs in her possession.
They also recovered cards, a saw knife, and instruments possibly used in the poisoning.
Barbosa admitted buying the chocolates but denied poisoning them, according to police.
Autopsy results for Luis Silva are expected to confirm the cause of death.
Authorities are also testing the leftover chocolates for toxins.
Security official Maurício Martins described the incident as a crime driven by jealousy and revenge.
He confirmed Barbosa’s ex is now dating the poisoned woman, Mirian Lira.
Martins said the police have strong evidence linking Barbosa to the crime.
Police vowed to present Barbosa to the Judiciary for prosecution.
