A former Minister of Aviation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode has lamented the ugly nature of arrests and detentions as carried out by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Mr Fani-Kayode expressed the lamentation on his Twitter handle on Thursday.
He wrote:
“You lay siege to Ita Ekpeyong’s home yet you allow Babachir Lawal to go free.
“You detain Pius Anyim yet you retain Rotimi Amaechi in your cabinet.
“You arrest opposition leaders and humiliate their family members yet you protect Abdulrasheed Maina and shield Maikanti Baru.
“GOD JUDGE YOU!”
Fani-Kayode is not alone in this matter as several well-meaning Nigerians have consistently reprimanded the present administration on its arrest pattern.
In an Elombah.com report dated 31 October 2017, titled “Revealed! Buhari Did Not Sack Ex-SGF Babachir, He Only Cut Deal”, a source had dared President Buhari to arrest and prosecute the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation [SGF], Mr David Babachir Lawal.
The sources close to Presidency has revealed that President Buhari did not sack the former SGF, David Babachir Lawal, rather, that he merely struck a deal with him.
He said Buhari simply made a deal with Mr Babachir Lawal to save the face of his government.
The deal, according to him, is that the former SGF will appoint anyone of his choice and step aside.
The source even suggested that Babachir might still be receiving his salary as the SGF as long as the tenure of this government lasted.
Elombah.com, however, called his attention to the report that the presidency washed its hands off the former SGF and former chairman of National Intelligence Agency [NIA], Mr Ayo Oke.
According to the report, the presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu said that Buhari will not stop the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from its investigation against them.
To that he retorted: “Have we not been fighting corruption in this country since the birth of this present government?
“How many have been convicted? All of them are nothing but empty charade.
“I dare President Buhari to arrest and prosecute Babachir Lawal. If he does, then, don’t believe anything I tell you.
“He might only make a scapegoat of poor Ayo Oke but believe me he won’t raise a finger on Babachir Lawal, quote me.
“He will not arrest them. He will only make a show for Nigerians to dance and before long another scandal springs up and they will be swept under the carpet with APC’s big broom,”, he noted.
True to his words, Ayo Oke is being stalked for arrest while Babachir is walking with hands in pocket across the length and breadth of Nigeria!
