Mrs. Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of Nigeria’s former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has returned to Nigeria.

A reliable source on Wednesday confirmed her return to Diaspora Digital Media.

It will be recalled that Senator Ekweremadu, his wife, and Dr. Obinna Obeta were sentenced by a UK court over charges related to organ harvesting.

The circumstances surrounding her release are not entirely clear, but it is believed that she may have been granted early release or parole.

The former Deputy Senate President received a 10-year prison sentence, while Mrs. Ekweremadu was sentenced to six years.

Timeline of the matter

Initial Arrest and Charges

In June 2022, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice were arrested in the United Kingdom on suspicion of conspiring to bring a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

The Metropolitan Police Service announced that the couple had been charged with conspiring to facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation.

Allegations and Investigation

The allegations centered around the Ekweremadus’ attempts to bring a 15-year-old boy from Nigeria to the UK for a kidney transplant.

The boy was allegedly to donate a kidney to the Ekweremadus’ daughter, Sonia, who suffers from kidney disease.

The investigation revealed that the Ekweremadus had allegedly made false statements about the boy’s relationship to them and had attempted to exploit him for their own gain.

Trial and Sentencing

In November 2022, the Ekweremadus pleaded not guilty to the charges.

However, in May 2023, they were found guilty of conspiring to exploit the 15-year-old boy for organ harvesting.
