El-Rufai declares Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid ‘impossible’

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has ruled out any possibility of President Tinubu winning re-election in 2027.

He made this known while speaking to journalists in Abuja about Nigeria’s future political direction, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathers.

El-Rufai declared that the Nigerian electorate now holds more power than any group of political officeholders or elites.

He insisted that Tinubu’s influence among governors would not translate into victory at the polls.

“A governor has only one vote,” El-Rufai said, stressing that voters collectively carry more weight than 36 governors combined.

He maintained that Nigerians are increasingly disillusioned with both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

El-Rufai, who recently defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said the APC had failed the people.

He argued that most politicians defecting to the APC are doing so purely out of self-interest and personal ambition.

According to him, these defections do not reflect genuine public support for the ruling party or its leadership.

El-Rufai explained that access to power had become the driving force behind many political moves in the APC.

He added that the ruling party’s control of federal structures would not be enough to secure victory in 2027.

The former minister said Nigerians are now better informed and less likely to support parties based on sentiment or fear.

He pointed to the 2023 elections, where voters defied pressure and rejected the ruling party in key areas.

Using his own experience, El-Rufai recalled how the APC lost the presidential vote while he was still governor.

He believes the same could happen again if opposition parties present a united and credible front.

El-Rufai said the Nigerian people are determined to make their voices heard through the ballot box.

He cautioned against underestimating the electorate’s resolve and growing political awareness.

Internal alliances within the ruling party, he argued, cannot save Tinubu from rejection by the people.

“Anybody that thinks that it is possible for President Bola Tinubu to get re-elected is living in another country,” he said.

El-Rufai concluded, “It is impossible for Bola Tinubu to get re-elected.”

His statement is already generating reactions from different quarters of the political space.

Many observers view El-Rufai’s comments as an early warning of turbulence ahead of the 2027 elections.

His defection and bold criticism may energize opposition movements seeking to challenge APC dominance.

Whether his prediction becomes reality or not, the political climate appears set for a fiercely contested election season.
